Week 20 Week 21 — school was cut short by a day and half due to bad weather last week. All the work will be done in Power Point. We will begin with a study of Alphaet books — looking at layouts, how the information is presented and what information is presented.
After brainstorming anaimals that could be included in the book, student groups will be assigned animals to research. Students will then put their information on power point slides. Students have chosen several things and have written what is important about them in the same pattern as the book.
We have also studied the illustrations and how the illustrator placed the words and pictures on the page. Students are writing and illustrating their own books. Weeks 28 — 31 — These will be science weeks for us. We are learning about life cycles. As for the writing component, I have introduced a science journal and we have learning how to draw and label diagrams.
We have also been learning how to write about what we have observed. I will be involved in helping to administer tests all week.
Week — Writing Book Reviews. For the next four weeks we will be learning how to write book reviews. I am basing all my lessons from the book Writing about Reading by Janet Angelillo specifically focusing on Chapter 5 — Genres of Writing about Reading. We will begin our unit of study by examining book reviews of some of our favorite books on Amazon.
